Hello and welcome to the latest issue of The Ghoulish Times. You’re reading this newsletter for reasons between you and your god. I have two hours before we have to pack for a festival we have a vendor table at, so let’s just jump right into it…
KINGS OF HORROR: JOHN CARPENTER
This weekend (March 26st & 27th) we will have a Ghoulish Books table at the Kings of Horror: John Carpenter Edition festival in downtown San Antonio (located at the Vibes Center). Here is their Facebook event page for more details. If you’re local, come say hi! And maybe pick up a book or two!
MOTHMAN IN THE FLESH
The festival mentioned above will also be our first live event to feature a title from our new Ghoulish Books catalog. That’s right, folks. Copies of Laurel Hightower’s Below have finally arrived, and they are glorious. BEHOLD…
Many customers who pre-ordered a copy directly through our webstore have already received theirs. We shipped out a couple hundred last week, and we still have quite a bit more to get through. If you haven’t received a shipping notification yet, expect it on Monday!
Look at some of these pics readers have taken with the book so far. I’ll never get sick of ’em.

If you haven’t pre-ordered Below yet, I believe we have a couple signed bookplates left for those who want to secure a copy through our webstore, although I know we are dangerously close to running out of them. Order through our webstore HERE. Alternatively, I recommend Bookshop.org.
LAUREL HIGHTOWER - REDDIT AMA
Later this afternoon (like, in a couple hours) at 1:30pm EST, Laurel Hightower will be doing a Reddit AMA on the horrorlit subreddit. Feel free to start asking your questions now:
https://www.reddit.com/r/horrorlit/comments/tnborb/lets_talk_mothman_laurel_hightower_ama_horror/
Ask her about mothman! Ask her about driving through West Virginia in the middle of the night! Ask her about The Dead Inside! Ask her ANYTHING. It’s an AMA, baby!
BELOW - RELEASE PARTY
Want even more mothman content? Of course you do! Tomorrow, the 27th, at 6pm EST, the Paper Cuts boyz will be hosting a release party with Laurel Hightower. It will be live on their YouTube channel. Lots of fun guests and giveaways! Sadly, I’m going to miss it due to the aforementioned San Antonio festival I’m at this weekend, but that doesn’t mean YOU should miss it. GHOULISH BOOK FESTIVAL UPDATES
The inaugural Ghoulish Book Festival is just over a month away. It will occur in San Antonio on the weekend of April 30th and May 1st (which is, if my math is correct, the halfway to Halloween mark). Our special guests include Laurel Hightower, Cynthia Pelayo, and Shane McKenzie.
Badges are still on sale HERE.
Check out the GBF lanyards we just ordered for badge holders:
And the GBF masks we are making for everybody’s welcome bags:
Did you know throwing a book festival is expensive? Yeah, we are also surprised. If you can’t make it to the event, consider sponsoring it! Sponsorships come with advertisements in both our program book and the GHOULISH podcast.
Also, IMPORTANT: If you are attending the festival and have not yet booked a hotel, we were just informed the hotel will only be keeping their block of rooms with the GBF festival throughout the end of March. Reserve your room HERE.
FUCKED VIBES WITH MAGGIE SIEBERT!
Maggie Siebert is the author of Bonding. On tonight’s GHOULISH, she joined me to discuss fucked vibes, Apocalypse Party, internet shock & gore sites, and Uncle Goddamn.

NEW PUP WHO DIS
Back in August, when I made the switch from Mailchimp to Substack and rebranded the newsletter as The Ghoulish Times—in the very first issue—I introduced our new puppy, Frank.
He has since become a recurring character in this newsletter. He’s also one of the best things about my own personal existence. Frank is the love of my life. But I felt like maybe he needed a little brother to play with, so Lori and I checked out our local rescue shelter and found a lil’ guy who we thought would be perfect. His background is kind of a bummer (he was one of 50 dogs found in a small house after the owner passed away), but he already seems to be adapting well to our family.
Folks, allow me to introduce you to Mr. Conan O’Brien:
He was only born in January, so he really is a baby. He sleeps half the day and then fucking goes apeshit the other half of the day. I love him. And so does Frank.
The first day, Frank was pretty pissed. But, later that same night, while Conan watched Frank and I play fetch with his favorite toy tire, something in Frank flipped, and he pushed the tire over to Conan and let him chew on it for a little bit. After that, they were suddenly inseparable. Here is a video I took of them rough-housing together on Conan’s first night at the house:
And here is Conan helping me finish the screenplay adaptation of The Nightly Disease:
And here is a random book I found at our house that inexplicably features Conan and Frank on the front cover:
