It’s feeling like a Bad Vibes Halloween this morning as I write this newsletter. A thousand things at once have piled up and I’m frantically trying to get them all done. Over the weekend, while vendoring at a popup event, I dropped my cell phone on the keyboard of my laptop, and the computer’s screen instantly imploded, which was very cool and fun to see but then was immediately discouraging and terrifying.
Most of my projects I’ve thankfully backed up, except for—of course—the big manuscript I was over halfway through editing. It’s very possible only the screen is fucked, and I’ll be able to recover the document by plugging it into an external monitor. I won’t know this until I get an HDMI adaptor, however, which I won’t have time to do for another week. So for now, we live in limbo.
After googling various prices for screen replacements, I am pretty confident I won’t be able to afford to fix it anytime soon. Thankfully, I have a backup desktop, it’s just not as…mobile-friendly, from the house to the shop, but it’s not the end of the world. Just…you know, frustrating.
Lori had to go down to the shop this morning and open the store for us while I finish a few computer-necessary tasks today. Such as this newsletter. So I don’t want to spend too much time here rambling. There are a few more things I gotta plug before I logoff and race down to the shop to relieve my wife.
As soon as the shop closes this evening, I am driving straight up to Austin to host The Ghoulish Show at Radio Coffee & Beer, which is a variety spooky comedy event that I do (mostly) every month. This one feels special, though. It’s on Halloween night! It can’t suck. It can’t. If it sucks, I’m ruined.
Come on down at 8pm and judge for yourself.
I should get home from Austin around midnight. I then plan on packing and going to sleep, just in time to wake up at 5am to begin my 2-day drive to Richmond, Virginia for Halloween Hangover:
It’s going to be a really fun weekend and I can’t wait to hang out with my horror pals! I am going to steal one of their laptops when they are too drunk to notice.

Gary P. Cohen Interviewed on the Decayed Tapes Podcast about SOV Horror Filmmaking
On this week’s episode of Decayed Tapes, we were lucky enough to interview Gary P. Cohen about making VIDEO VIOLENCE 1 & 2 and CAPTIVES. We talked about DIY filmmaking, working for the theater, and what it felt like to discover his movies had developed a cult-following decades after releasing them.
Decayed Tapes Halloween Special: The Resurrection of Michael Myers (Swedish Fan Film)
On this year’s special Halloween episode, we watched The Resurrection of Michael Myers 1 and 2, which are two insane Swedish fan films from the late 1980s starring Michael Myers, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and the clumsiest skateboarder you’ve ever seen. Miguel also recaps his recent experience attending Halloween: 45 Years of Terror in Pasadena, California. Hubba hubba!
Beginning in November, Decayed Tapes will start updating every two weeks, instead of the weekly schedule we’ve maintained in October. If you’d like to see us return to a weekly schedule, we will reconsider once the DT patreon kicks off a little more. Consider becoming a Decayed Tapes patron today and gain access to video-versions of the podcast and other exclusive content.
