Trying to be proactive on social media makes me feel like that guy in the Stephen Crane poem: "A man said to the universe- 'Sir, I exist'." And then the universe basically says that it's not obliged to care...

Hello, I exist too!

I ran a popular website for years, only for social media and spambots to eat it in the mid-2000s. I'm hoping Substack might be a place to rebuild. Who knows, eh?

I think you're absolutely right about social media. It's slowly turning against us all. We've fed the Algorithm, prayed to it, sacrificed to it, and in a cooled room under the ground, the Algorithm has been summoned from the world of 0s and 1s, and now it's coming for us. All hail the Algorithm or perish. Or just perish regardless. In a thousand years the Algorithm will still be spoken of. In a thousand years its name will be found in ancient texts. In a thousand years its iconography will resurface and perhaps it will be resummoned, like an ancient evil.
